Beatriz Martínez Barrio was born in Madrid in 1972.
Her entire education has revolved around the visual arts. She achieved her Bachelor in Fine Arts with a Major in Painting at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and completed her last year with an Erasmus fellowship at Leeds Metropolitan Universtiy, Great Britain. She then expanded her photographic knowledge with a Masters in EFTI School, Madrid, Spain. Beatriz was subsequently awarded a two year scholarship to the Univestity of Fine Arts of Athens, which was followed by a fellowship from La Caixa Foundation for a Masters in Studio Art at New York University and the ICP (International Centre of Photography) in New York.

Throughout these years she has worked as assistant to various artists, including Tirtza Even, with whom she worked on projects such as “The Painted Devil” which dealt with Turkish women in Istanbul and Dara Birnbaum, a major figure within the video art world. She has also worked with publications and companies such as: Blind Spot, an artistic photographic magazine, Hirsh and Associates Fine Arts Service, a company dedicated to curating, design and exhibition installation of exhibitions and Box Ltd., a photographic lab that prints the work of top photographers such as Steven Meisel and Annie Leibovitz for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

She has held various group and solo exhibitions in Spain, Portugal, USA, Greece and Italy.
Nowadays Beatriz combines her professional activity with her work as a professor at EFTI School of Photography in Madrid, Spain

"When Olympus offered me the possibility of making a trip to try the new camera 510, I inmediately said yes. I have worked with Olympus for several years and the idea of making a documentary had great appeal."
